Makan-makan at Atuk's
|

The weekend after we got back from JB, we had another series of makan-makan... this time at Atuk's place in Keramat.
First we went for a "satay session" at Satay Melaka, Lembah Keramat. It was the end of the month (gaji time!) so there were loads of people there. We waited for what seemed AGES before food was finally served! Kids (Ian, Dmi, Syukran, Wardah & Afif) were restless & cranky... Luckily there was also "side-menu" - soto... So mummy ordered a few bowls for the kids, to keep their hunger pang (also, crankiness  ) away...
Then there was the New Year-cum-birthday-cum-anniversary celebration. Birthdays in Dec: Wan, Mak Lang, K. Faridah & Hilmi. It was also Atuk & Wan's 35th anniversary (25 Dec) ~  ...here's for another 35 years, Atuk & Wan  !!

Happy B'day Beloved Grandma!!

One of the agendas when we were in JB was celebrating Gemma's b'day. An early, "just-family" celebration, cos her b'day is actually on Jan 13. Grampa wanted to make it extra special & also to have an element of "surprise", so for weeks he'd been 'consulting' mummy! All Gemma knew was we're going out for lunch that day...
Gemma was truly surprised... We made the preparation (albeit just the shiny thing & 5 balloons - which Dmi somehow sat on 2 before mummy & Ucee could hang them up), drove crazily to Secret Recipe to get the cake & to the florist to collect the bouquet while Gemma was getting ready upstairs.
Uncle Haziq serenaded the 'Happy B'day' song (or something that sounded like it  ) on his violin as Gemma descended the stairs... Ian gave Gemma the bouquet of roses & lily while Dmi handed over the card/ gift!
HAPPY 55th BIRTHDAY GEMMA - YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL... YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL... IT'S TRUE  !
P.S: Uncle Haziq got his long-due b'day pressie too!!

A Weekend in JB

Woohoo... finally!! It has been more than 6 months since we last spent some time at Gramps' .
As always, we had a fantabulous time there... Gemma cooked yummy dishes - one after another - and on top of that, both Grampa & Gemma planned a series of "makan outings"... Mana laaaa mummy tak t.e.m.b.a.m !!!
Ian & Dmi also had the chance to meet Auntie Qucha's kids Danish (another Danish!!) & baby gal (Nur 'something' Shafika) and Auntie Lilia's Sofea & baby Sufyan (mummy hopes the spelling is right, Aunt Lily!). Let's do that again, fwends  !

Dmitri Alone ~ December 2005

After the trip to Kuching, Ian went to stay with his beloved Grandpa, Grandma & Uncle Haziq in JB for a whole month (well, almost!). It's an annual request from the grandparents & also, the cucu... Grandma wanted to "kidnap" Dmi as well, but Mummy was reluctant - a bit too handful for Grandma to handle both!
Dmi was left alone - he felt weird, we think, playing without his partner-in-crime. He was extra manja & loved the extra attention lavished.
When he missed Ian terribly, he didn't know how to express it... So he'd ask Daddy or Mummy to call Ian up! Bukan main lagi "borak"

Kuching 3 ~ 5 Dec 2005

Ian, daddy & mummy were in Kuching for 3 days (mummy was actually there a week earlier, work work work!!) - we had sooo much fun! Had lots of fresh seafood & Sarawak specialities (esp mee kolok), thanks to Auntie Ingrid who was a real hostess extraordinaire! Didn't do much shopping though - Mummy was unwell towards the end of the stay  but we did borong kek lapis Sarawak & ikan terubuk masin!

Ian's concert was held at ANGKASA, Kelana Jaya. We were quite surprised to see that Ian was a natural on stage... Lentuk maut  !! Mak Lang & "future" Pak Lang were there too... After the concert, we went for an early dinner at Kelana Jaya. Ian insisted to don his costume - complete with the head band, mind - so he attracted other diners' attention... tee hee

It was a memorable raya...
Both Ian & Dmi just couldn't wait to don their new baju melayu. They patiently waited when Daddy put on their samping - and refused to take it off even during the later part of the day... Vain pots  ! Dmitri made THE fashion statement: putting on his fav Nike hat instead of songkok.. haha!!
We went beraya after the official raya gathering of the Asmawi clan. Reached home at 10 p.m. Gosh, it was a longgg, tiring day... yet we absolutely enjoyed ourselves

Venue: "KAMPUNG" Mutiara D'sara
This year, the Asmawi clan decided to beraya at Nek Cher & Atuk Taib's place. So it all started on the last day of Ramadhan @ Raya Eve...
The kids had a blast playing with bunga api & mercun... while the grown-ups busy catching up/ gossiping/ eating!
We had real fun - although the setting was in a urban housing estate, it really felt like "esoknya raya" [to those of you who are of Banjar descendants, do read with the slang ]!!!

When at home...

...Ian & Dmitri are abundant with energy!
On his own, Ian likes to read, write or draw. He can play alone with his lego set, or immerse himself into role-paying with his action hero figurines (in English, albeit broken! ) BUT when he teams up with Dmi, they sure give the word CHAOS a whole new meaning!!!
